All the way through winter the male House Sparrow sits on the hedge in its nesting territory. This morning as usual the male sat on top of the three foot hedge just below the nest box it used last year and will use again this year. It sat there chirruping away for a good hour and was eventually joined by the female. later the same pair of Sparrows in the same hedge spent several minutes passing a white feather back and forward, moving it around in their bills, dropping it and picking it up again. Sparrow like white feathers, nobody knows why!
