First male Goldcrest in the garden today for some time. Sometimes records are more to do with human behaviour than they are to do with the birds! So the weather has been good so I have cracked on with gardening, out in the garden I can hear Goldcrest singing inside I can't. Do you see what I mean? They seem to like the xmas tree I planted 20 years ago.

Yesterday a late afternoon walk from Rock hole to Birch Moor and then back produced a few interesting records. A large flock of Pink footed Geese flew overhead. I watched a Barn Owl quartering a field in the distance towards Adeney. There were 4 female Goosander on the pool by the sewage works and. Green Sandpiper flew up from the edge of Strine Pipe in the same area. Lots of Fieldfares about.
Quite an interesting walk! A few years ago I thought I saw a green sandpiper down by the Strine at the bottom of Pond lane, but my knowledgable brother in law thought it unlikely because they are so scarce:

Perhaps it was a green sandpiper after all!
Its a sign that your getting old when you can no longer hear a Goldcrest, but its leading me thinking when im walking throiugh a wood, are there no Goldrests here,or am I too old?!
